They work great, until I try to play a video file. I can do everything fine, play UT2004, listen to music, browse the web. But when playing video files it has a problem.
What happens in kde media players is, the video plays, but the sound goes a thousand times slower, it sounds like its just looping the same spot but if you listen long enough the sound does change. In Xine the video plays and the sound just loops the first half a second of audio in clip. Once I try to exit it jams, I have to use xkill to get rid of the xine window, in kde media apps artsd will jam. Its really odd since I can play mp3's or play games without a problem. I am using exact same options as my last kernel setup (2.6.5-lokean2) which worked fine. Same with every other kernel I've tried over the past bit, although this is the first 2.6.6 kernel I've used.
Info:
Nvidia FX5600, 5336 drivers
Cmedia 8738 sound card, alsa drivers built as modules
Any ideas? |

Great, so if anybody wants to test and report:
make a blank resier4 partition, mount it, unpack the archive to it and do a sync. If it hangs bingo, if not, I don't understand why it hangs at my place... Beware that you can throw away you reiser4 partition afterwards! Enable magic sysrq to sync your other partitions or they might get thrashed, as well! |

Hm, starnge, could you try to download the file somewhere else and unpack it to a freshly formatted reiser4 partition? Are you using this love kernel? I wonder whether the bug is dependant on the partition size... Damn it! 
Idea!  IIRC there are some debug option in reiser4. I'll activate them and recompile kernel and try...
(later) I slowly get the impression that steel300 improperly patched reiser4 inside. First I couldn't enable printing debugging w/o compilation error, second w/o it, it compiled, but using the kernel I got following: After formatting and doing a ls on the mounted reiser4 volume I got an input/output error. I thought wtf and just untarred the bug archive and then I got major f.up. A lot of tracebacks and oops and system was dead after that.
I think I'll try a vanilla based reiser4 patched kernel to find out whether steel300 did a mistake or the reiser dudes...
(even later) So I tried xx-sources and this time it worked! So the chance is high that steel300 did something wrong in integrating reiser4.  Sorry, dude. But for the time being this is a warning to use reiser4 with love sources. There is some sort of bug inside... |

Compiles without problems, but the screen turns black on boot and nothing happens
I'm using my old config from 2.6.6-rc3-love3 so it should work.

I untarred the bug archive onto a brand new reiser4 partition and synced it with no problems. Not sure what would be causing it on your system. |

my partition was a new one as well and i am using love4.
the partition size is about 80GB - my entire second drive.
consider using the latest reiser4progs + libaal: 0.5.4 + 0.5.1,
if you are not using them already. |

Just a question , why all info and tunable options are disappeared from
"/proc/sys/vm/...." ????
like swappines, or anything else?

This kernel was based off of the reiser4 bk-pull. I didn't change anything relating to reiser4. Chances are it's something upstream.

1. I never applied a patch. What have I to do and where (in kernel, nvidia module?). Thanks in advance.
2. Why not keeping module 5336? It seems to work with the last love (but I have not yet rebuild this version in my other kernels) |

Compiled and working now - very slick
I had some space set aside for a reiser4 partition, so I bit the bullet can created one. cp -Rp'ed my root partition across and changed to boot from that. /home is on a separate partition and I still have my reiser3 root if it all goes pear shaped. So far, its seems very very fast.
I did have a couple of funnies: when I first tried to boot into the R4 partition something weird happened - apparently /etc/init.d/hostname failed (!) and the boot sequence seemed to try and go backward, stopping things instead of starting them. I managed to get a login prompt and restarted it and somewhere along the lines it inisted that my R3 /home partition had errors. I checked /home, restarted all the services. shut it down properly and next time it came up ok
Well, OK ish... re-enabling bootsplash goes "oops". but apart from that it seems fine.

Had no one experience like me with 2.6.6-love4 patch set?
My /proc/sys/vm/... now is almost empty, i've got only one entry that i can't quote now because i'm in front of a WinBlows machine ... i'm feeleing sick ...
i've lost my swappiness and i'm really missing it.
I don't think i missed options in kernel configuration since i've copied the love2 configuration and just modified what i needed. Also i've read that the -mm3 (on wich love4 is based) has also a better integration with -aa patch ... so where are my Tuning options??
