AlohaheY,
Just want to change from crux because of better portage-system...
booting works. setting up eth0 (modprobe e1000 | ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.78 netmask 255.255.255.0 | route add 192.168.0.78 eth0) and ping to other hosts of the network, too.
But when i try to access the inet via adsl (rpppoe | germany, t-dsl, correct settings, checked fivefold!), adsl-connect (adsl-start is timed out) is complaining about the lack of PPP-kernel support ("this system lacks PPP kernel support") after making mknod /dev/ppp c 108 8; adsl-connect instructed me to to do so.
Does the problem depend on the e1000 module? Or is it just a bug?

Bin zwar selbst "n00b", aber haste rp-pppoe emerged und im kernel selbst auch die PPP-spezifischen Sachen aktiviert? (make menuconfig)
I'm "n00b" myself, but did you emerge rp-pppoe and check the PPP-specific stettings in your kernel? (make menuconfig) |

You should not write in German here. There's a special forum for it. (Schau mal unten in der Forenliste nach.)
The kernel is the "heart" of your Linux system. You compile it to have a customized version with the drivers you need. If you don't know what to select, genkernel seems to be a good alternative (I didn't try it myself)

Ok @ writing in german.
Seems that you don't understand my problem.
I am booting the live cd, then i want to get access to the internet for the following installation.
my problem refers to manual chapter 3.c -> Alternative: Using RP-PPPoE
adsl-setup works and the settings are right.
But if I execute adsl-start, the script times out. For debugging I tried adsl-connect. adsl-connect messag says that /dev/ppp does not exist and I should mknod /dev/pppc 108 8. After mknod adsl-connect gives the error message "this system lacks PPP kernel support"
@ fox and tuam: I know that I have to compile a kernel for further use, buf if I am not even able to _install_ a stage, I am not able to get on installation... |

I had similar problems.
Running adsl-start from the LiveCD always timed out for me, despite the correct settings. I had to install gentoo first (i.e. compile a kernel), then suddenly adsl-start worked properly. Kinda strange.
But I did a stage3-install, so a non-working internet access during installation was no problem for me. |

Thanks, so let's get on from German to German
Did you try to modprobe the pppoe modules (I don't remember the exact names)? Which kernel did you boot from the CD?

booted kernel 2.4.25, maybe that was the problem.
Also tried to modprobe pppoe, but one of the important required modules ppp.o was missing.
So I got stuck and finally used release 2004.0 to install, where I didn't experience such problems!
Since I updated my system to the latest portage, there should be no difference wheater I use live-cd release 2004.0 or 2004.1!
>> Installation successful now I can enjoy gentoo (: |
