Hey guys whats up.
Quick question: How do you go about registering protocols that should be open by specific applications? For example, i'm trying to open the link (from a firefox browser) from this page
http://www.peru.com/futbol/apertura/archivo/2004/videos/16.asp
All video links correspond to a mms:// protocol Clicking it gives me an error box that says "mms is not a registered protocol". I know gxine can play it well (choosing File -> Open MRL), so I'd like gxine to automatically open these kinds of links.
As a side note, mplayer does not even open this file.
Thanks in advance! |

mms:// works from the command line, but I cannot seem to make Firefox (and the mplayer plugin) see it. Firefox tells me that "mms is not a registered protocol". How can I help firefox find the appropriate help?

Does this work for you? If I choose "/usr/bin/mplayer" it doesn't, I'll try with gxine.
EDIT: "/usr/bin/xine" works
RESULT:
1. Open Mozilla/Firefox/Epiphany (There's another GTK+/Gnome based browser I forgot the name of..)
2. In the address bar type "about:config"
3. Right click, and "New -> String"
4. Name it "network.protocol-handler.app.mms"
5. In the next screen add the application that can play the file (xine works)
6. No need to restart the browser (at least in Epiphany's case). |

Thanks. I followed that procedure with mplayer, but no luck. Is there a known issue with mplayer? I can and will switch to xine if necessary.

That's what someone needs to find out. Xine works fine, but mplayer doesn't. I guess that's why they invented mplayerplug-in. But it's a plugin, and I dunno how to make it work with mms:// protocols!
I always have had xine and mplayer both installed, but it'd still be good to know how to make mplayer work with this.

Hello,
I have made the next:
1. Open Mozilla/Firefox/Epiphany (There's another GTK+/Gnome based browser I forgot the name of..)
2. In the address bar type "about:config"
3. Right click, and "New -> String"
4. Name it "network.protocol-handler.app.mms"
5. In the next screen add the application that can play the file: gmplayer (a graphical interface for mplayer)
6. No need to restart the browser (mozilla) and it's working fine. _________________ Si algo falla LEE el jodido manual, Si sigue fallando LEE BIEN el jodido manual. |
