Firefox takes ~20 seconds to start up on my Athlon64 2GHZ system. I've enabled prelinking (prelink -afmR).

How can I improve startup time?
Thanks for any help.

EDIT:
The problem was my /etc/hosts file. See refrenced threads for more information.

maybe try doing these commands

Code:
emerge -C mozilla-firefox
USE="gtk -gtk2" emerge mozilla-firefox

disables gtk2 and builds firefox using gtk. it seems to improve for me

I've tried this earlier but GKT2 seems better to me.

My friend, using a 500MHZ Celeron, reports load times of about 5 seconds.

Also, Firefox seems to take much longer (~2.5 minutes) the first time I start it.

I'm using version 0.8,

I've seem better load times (<1min) on my old laptop, a 500MHZ Celeron, 64MB RAM, running Mandrake 8.2, no prelinking, but this was with an older version of Firebird.

Could my problems be due to incorrect prelink config, or the libraries I'm using?

I've seen a lot of similar posts where the problem was that the /etc/hosts file was set up wrong. A search may yield something relevant. I think there was even a thread with almost exactly this same title.

Thanks. The /etc/hosts file was the problem.
