I am trying to use "Vim inside KDE" as configured in the KDE Control Center.
When I enter /usr/bin/gvim in the Vim Executable Selection section and click Test, a dialog appears telling me that the Test failed and my Vim does not provide any GUI support.
jan@kite jan $ emerge search gvim

I had this working when I used KDE (but I don't anymore)...so it is possible!
Maybe check the USE flags for gvim and make sure you have +gtk and +gtk2 unless you want motif gvim, which might not work with KDE. |

I am not familiar with KDE (haven't run it since 1.0 I think) but I would like to think the kvim package provides more KDE/QT compatibility than the gvim (GTK2) package.

And to see if you really do have vim/gvim with GTK/GTK2 support just type gvim from the console.

I tried kvim and it found gvim much more stable and feature-ful (is that a word?) under KDE, at least with gtk2 support enabled. |

I've used kvim and it was really buggy and takes a tweak to even make it run on Gentoo (there is currently a bug report open for it ). It also is 6.2 version where as gvim is 6.3
gvim was working perfectly except it always failed the compatibility. I just tried compiling it seeing USE="-gtk2" and now that compatibility test works too.
The only thing I have to figure out is how to have it open ftp files from Konqueror's ftp file manager. It just opens a blank file and not the actual ftp program. I'm not sure why this is (this problem occurred before I tried the -gtk2 field as well). |
