|
|
I've tried and cried, and wept and tried again, but I can't get my Microsoft Wireless/Optical (blue, if that means anything) usb mouse to work.
I've got an old laptop (Toshiba 2520CDS, 300Mhz, 98ram, 4gbhd) and have been trying to install linux for ever now. (Mandrake 9.2 no pcmica, Debian woody, no fun, no usb mouse, no controll, Mandrake 10.0CE, same same, and at last Gentoo 2004.1 great fun) Gentooo makes alot go round, and it even got my mouse to work during the install. But, when I boot my own kernel (I did not use the genkernel option) I get no mouse.
Interesting things:
1. Nothing in dmesg tells me an usb mouse is found
2. No cat on any mouse/usb/input in dev provides any input
3. The mouse doesnt know. (when i press the "connect" button, it just blinks for some time, and then turns of, it cannot find the mouse)
4. The mouse works nicely on my girlfriends awesome laptop (she's taking her philosophy masters deg, so obviously she needs a 3ghz widscreen laptop), and when booting from the gentoo LiveCD, it works.
I've read the forums and googled for ever, but I think my problem is different. Dmesg tells me that several usb thingies have been loaded, and the usbfs is mounted (empty though), but the mouse isn't loaded.
Instead of pasting dmsg and my .config file here, I give any kind helper a link:
.config: http://www.lstud.ii.uib.no/~s1283/download/config-usbkernel
demsg : http://www.lstud.ii.uib.no/~s1283/download/demsg.txt
lsmod shows NOTHING
i've emerged hotplug and emerged modules-?????-????? (i dont remember the name). I've not updated any config-files, or any other files for that matter, except /boot/grub/grup.conf
(This might be the problem with the unloaded modules, but as I kompiled the usb things in the kernel, (for this very reason) it should not matter, should it?)
(I'm currently trying to read for my exams, so if I dont answer replies immideatly thats why)
Finally the : Help me please! I'm loosing my mind.
PS: I named my kernel usbkernel or smthg, but updated grub.conf accordingly. This means I have two kernels in /boot/: kernel-2.6.5-gentoo-rc1 and usbkernel. They are the same kernel, but with different configs.
I do not think this is important, but I included it to be sure. |

your dmesg shows that no usb modules are loaded. Try to Code: | modprobe uhci-hcd
or
modprobe ohci-hcd |
This should load the usb modules. (I think that genkernel builds the modules, but I am not sure) |

I already did. Twice. No luck
Then I recompiled the kernel the n'th time, this time modulizing every option concerning usb, and tried it again: and Voila! it WORKED!
Haha, after emerging fluxbox, I now have my first working linux system up and running
Thanks! |

hello mopmop,
Can you tell me what modules you load and what you have in XF86Config please?
I have been beating myself with this for a while now and can't get it to run.
I recompiled my kernel with all USB modular and loaded uhci module and still cat doesn't return anything on any of the possible devices.
Any help from anyone would be apriciated.
Thanks |
