I really have to scratch my head here.

I emerged kdepim-3.2.2 and everything appeared to install correctly. I also installed Netscape-Flash-6.0.81. I wanted to get Netscape Flash to work in Konqueror so I followed instructions in the help files for Konqueror and selected "Tools" >> "Configure Konqueror" >> Plugins. Only ONE little problem. There is no Plugins option under "Configure Konqueror".

I searched kde.org, bugs.kde.org, googled and IRCd. The only answer I can come up with is that I am crazy, because all documents and people agree that there should be a plugin option for Konqueror.

I tried messing around with USE flags, different versions of Netscape-Flash, etc... Nothing seems to be working.
So, has anybody else noticed this problem as well? What can I do to fix this?

Have you installed all of the kde-3.2.2 packages or just kdenetwork and kdepim? It might be that kde-3.2.1 and 3.2.2 doesn't work together so well and cause funny problems.

I have the same problem too. I'm pretty sure I built kde 3.2.2 with motif in my USE flags.

This is "me too" post. I have kde 3.2.2 built and I have motif in my USE flags. But under Settings -> Configure Konqueror the plugins configuration item is missing.

I found something that may help -- I tried reemerging kdelibs and kdebase to see if that would help, but as kdebase was emerging, I saw this go by the terminal screen:

Code:
checking if ksystraycmd should be compiled... yes
checking if ktip should be compiled... yes
checking if kwin should be compiled... yes
checking if kxkb should be compiled... yes
checking if l10n should be compiled... yes
checking if nsplugins should be compiled... no
checking if pics should be compiled... yes
checking if konqueror should be compiled... yes
checking if kdesktop should be compiled... yes
checking if kdm should be compiled... yes
configure: creating ./config.status

You're missing OSF/Motif or LessTif.
KDE won't be able to use Netscape plugins without it, so you should
consider installing it.
Have a look at http://www.lesstif.org, or find a binary package for
your platform.

As you can see, the kdebase ebuild looks for whether nsplugins should be compiled, but decides no. Then it tells me that Motif is not installed, when it clearly is:

Code:
 # emerge search motif
Searching...
[ Results for search key : motif ]
[ Applications found : 1 ]

*  x11-libs/openmotif
      Latest version available: 2.1.30-r5
      Latest version installed: 2.1.30-r5

Description: Open Motif (Metrolink Bug Fix Release)

Yeah, I just got done compiling kdebase with motif built in. Still no plugins. KDE-3.2.2

[Edit]
Just read the above post. So i'm re-emerging openmotif, and gonna recompile kdebase again. Maybe since I've upgraded qt recently, openmotif might need to be recompiled.

I have installed kde after having recompiled qt, motif and the like, and I don't know what happens.

Caleb? Do you know something about that?

I filed a bug on Gentoo's bugzilla regarding this -- the most reliable way of bringing this to a developer's attention.

It's bug #52290.

Quick summary for the impatient: the openmotif ebuild isn't installing any binaries/libs, just man pages.

yeah, but I installed lesstif, as suggested by kdebase, and It doesn't work either...

I hope for a quick fix by the openmotif maintainer, as this is the only thing preventing me to use konqueror in a daily basis.

It looks like the openmotif issue was fixed over the weekend.

Code:
emerge sync
emerge --oneshot openmotif kdebase netscape-flash

got netscape plugins working for me in Konqueror again.

Still isn't working for me. Kde-3.2.2, gcc-3.4.0-r4, qt-3.3.2. Same deal with the configure scripts not finding my openmotif installation. I also see a lot of errors during the openmotif build, but I guess nothing that will stop the emerge.

I'm also using gcc 3.4, maybe that has something to do with it.

Is anybody who still has this problem using gcc-3.4-r6 or 3.3/3.2?

Well, I got it working. I just emerge openmotif with gcc-3.3.x, which I still have on my system. So i just used 'gcc-config 1' to switch to it, and once it was done, switched back to gcc-3.4 and recompiled kdebase. Plugins are now apparent in konqueror. Maybe this will be a temporary fix untill openmotif is truly compatable with gcc-3.4.
