Just wondering if anyone has had any luck in getting a Centrino laptop with and integrated Intel 855 Graphics contoller working with acceleration...
I've got X and gnome up and humming along, but as soon as anything with acceleration kicks in, I get a fatal error....and it dies.
The binary drivers that intel provides will "not" even come close to compiling against the 2.6 kernel...
And of course the integrated wireless is not even worth bringin up!!

I have a integrated Intel 855 Graphics contoller running perfectly whit Xfree 4.3 and kernel 2.6test10
I use the drm and the dri of these kernel.
I had to recompile xfree after compile the 2.6 kernel because when any aplication that requires opengl crashes whit a segmentation fault error.

I'm having the same problem with a Dell Inspiron 1150 (P4) w/ Intel everything...(modem,lan,wlan (which doesn't work), video) My video card is the Intell 855GM. I have configured my XF86Config with the following: (hope its not too much)

I also downloaded the 855wrap, I don't think the driver stays. Once I run ./855wrap it installs fine. Then I can run startx and run kde, but when I reboot. I have to set it up again. when I reboot with xdm running at startup time, i get a green screen + lockup.
Any help would be great...thanks.

Hi, I have my Inspiron 1150 working with Intel 855GM, Modem et. al. - sorry I don't have wireless so I can't help with that, but here is the rest of the story.
I downloaded and built 855Wrap as you have. I load it via:

This gives me 16Mb. video RAM. When you see "Starting local..." at boot time, every command in /etc/conf.d/local.start is being run.

Note the modules glx and dri are there, the device section specifying the Intel 855GM video card, and it's VideoRam (the same size as specified with 855wrap. You also need to be sure that in your 2.6 kernel config, you have:

The second problem, the modem.
My Inspiron 1150 has an Intel i8x0 AC97 modem, so this solution will only work if you have the same. You will also need the 2.6.6 kernel if you want to avoid a manual patch to other kernels. Basically, you need to build Device Drivers/Sound/Advanced Linux Sound Architecture/PCI Devices
