OK, got problem: Installed 2004.1 to old Seagate drive, and after short period of usage got some errors to /var/log/messages: hda: drive_cmd: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error } there is few more lines of 'hda'-errors, but seems that maybe disk is making it's last spins. So, what should i do? I have new 40 gig disk and i'm not willing to install everything again. Just got everything nice and running ya know :/ I made some thinking, and tell me that this is not possible
1) Install new disk
2) Make partitions to new disk, same size and same layout than old
3) Boot from gentoo cd
4) Do a 'dd if=/dev/olddiskX of=/dev/newdiskN' for every partition
5) chroot to new disk
6) Configure grub etc.
7) Boot and hope it worked ;p
To mention, i'm not 'dd' expert but that command should be possible? What i'm missing? Why this won't work? Any solution to get everything to new drive so i can continue working and toss that b0rken disk to somewhere where sun doesn't shine? |
