I have a Compaq 730CA Laptop. When I first set it up the sound worked fine. Now the sound has stopped working.
Alsamixer works, but the gnome sound utility says that there is no mixer device. Amixer also seems to work.
The sound card shows up in dmesg:
ALSA device list:
#0: VIA 82C686A/B rev50 at 0x1000, irq 5
Does anyone have any ideas? |

I got the sound to work. Turns out that PCM was muted.
But when I try to open to Volume Properites in Gnome is still says No Mixer element and/or Device present. It used to work.
I've re-emerged gnome, gnome-vfs-extras and gnome-extras.
Still no luck. alsamixer and amixer seem to work fine. |
