I've just ordered up an Abit KV8 Pro, 512MBs of corsair pc3200, and a mobile A64 3000. Looks like just about everything should be a breeze to get going, but I can't seem to figure out if the onboard gigabit NIC can be made to work on a 2.6 kernel. I don't see any support for it in the gigabit drivers in the 2.6.7-rc1 kernel. I found the velocity driver on Via's site, but it says it only supports kernels 2.2 and 2.4. So is there another compatible driver for the 2.6 kernel, or will this one work? I'd be perfectly happy even if it can only work at 100mbps, since that's what the rest of my LAN is. Would the via-rhine driver work with this NIC for 100mbps? I do intend to stick with 32bit, at least until nvidia has A64 drivers that support 32bit games.
This isn't a huge deal, I have some realtek NICs I was going to use in an IPTables box I'll be building soon, but I could just use one of those and get another when I'm ready to setup the IPTables box. Though I would like to get it working with the onboard so I don't have to buy another NIC. _________________ "we should make it a law that all geeks have dates" - Linus |

Not sure about your particular board, but my MSI K8T Neo FIS2R has the VIA chipset and the on board gigabit network is supported. I am currently using the r8169 kernel module I compiled for it with no problems at all on a 100 Mbit network. I think your board uses the same module. |
