|
|
I'm moving to the UK in July from Canada, where I bought my computer. To better fit my homework and writing needs whilst in Scotland, I'd like to switch my keybard layout so that when I type shift-4, it gives me the £ sign instead of the $ one without having to go into Unicode Character Map in Gnome.
I believe this is an XFree86 thing, correct me if I'm wrong. How can I change my keymapping? |

cluster one,
Call up the gb keymap in XF86Config. You could even invest a few shillings in a new keyboard while you are here. _________________ Regards,

I have a laptop, so I don't really want a new keyboard. How does the XF86Config thing work? |

cluster one,
In your /etc/X11/XF86Config put Quote: | Option "XkbLayout" "gb" | in the keyboard section. this acts on your whole keyboad layout. I don't know what else swaps. _________________ Regards,

"setxkbmap gb" will work in X, although it only lasts as long as that particular X session.
In console, loadkeys gb will have the same effect.

Ah yes, and if you're using the gb keyboard layout, shift+3 will give you £, and shift+4 will still give you $.
