|

I love Kde. It does everything that it is supposed to for me (make a window for my GUI apps) and it does what sets it apart from the other GUI's: it is so damn pretty.
But the problem is I hate kdm . Gdm destroys it and puts it to shame . I was wondering if it were possible to use Gdm without using gnome or even without emerging gnome, because for a GUI that I dislike, it will be a waste of space on my hard disk.
So my question is, in the spirit of Gentoo, can I not use Gnome but use Gdm with Kde and fluxbox?
If it is possible please explain how it is done and what it would take to accomplish.
THANX in advance!
P.S.: I am a minimalist and even if gnome takes up very little space I still would like it better if it were not on my machine.
P.S.S.: Also keep in mind I do not have an internet connection so this has to be doable without one ... _________________ CPU: 3800+ X2 (2.5Ghz)

You can emerge gdm like so:
That will merge some of the low level gnome libraries, so I don't know if you'll be satisfied. I did this for a while until I decided that KDM with plastik and a nice font was okay for me.
If you're not satisfied with the number of libraries for GDM, check out qingy:

I like it. Qinjy gets props.
Yeah thats why I like the new Gdm. because the new Gdm actually looks kind of like that and that is what I wanted. That.
