Don't know if the 2.4 series has the preemtible kernel patches. If not - well, not much you can do (except maybe trying to enable DMA for disk I/O if it isn't already). Fedora uses Red Hat kernels, and those contain a godawful number of less documented patches from Red Hat...
The 2.6 series has the preemptible kernel option (at least the Gentoo kernels do ). You could try to upgrade (search for threads, but it's currently easy as a pie). _________________ Military Commissions Act of 2006: http://tinyurl.com/jrcto

Um, OSS is deprecated in the 2.6 series. Use the ALSA module and, if you really need OSS compatibility, use ALSA's OSS emulation. It's actually faster than OSS, too. _________________ Military Commissions Act of 2006: http://tinyurl.com/jrcto
