OK, installed at work, no problems. At home, nothing but pain, both using genkernel 3.0.2a.

On boot, when the "Determining module dependencies" stage is running, it complains about several modules not exisiting. Things like IDE tape, which I don't use and didn't select in the config.

It complains about not finding keybdev and mousedev.

I get (*** CHECKSUM ERROR 0081 ***) in dmesg whenever I load the 3c59x module, and so networking of course does not work.

Also is it normal to fail to unmount the initrd image when it has finished booting? It happens with every genkernel kernel I've made, and I have no idea why this happens.

Can anyone be of assistance?

i'll reply only for netcard: did you installed as module and saved in modules folder? modprobe 3c.. gives you your driver present? have you tried lsmod also to verify whart modules are installed in your pc?

Yep, 3c59x module is definitely there, compiled as a module. It detects my hardware correctly, then throws the checksum error and doesn't work, though the module itself stays loaded.

BTW, I've tried this twice with the same result. The first time it happened, i rm'd the kernel source tree, and the cached config file in /etc/kernels/ and re-emerged gentoo-dev-sources. Both had the same error. And I know the card is working, as I'm using it no troubles in 2.4.22 at the moment.
