Just a quick question before I spec my new sytem.
I've been using a 3ware 8506-8 at home and at work for the past 6 months under Debian, and it's been solid. I'm now in the planning stages of building my supremo workstation (duallie Opteron) which is going to take over from my current XP 2800 booting Gentoo and w2k. I plan to have the system booting offof a RAID0 array using two western digital Raptors, and want to use a 3ware because of the potential argh's with software RAID under two different OS's (esp. with those damned silicon image controllers - wasn't the whole point of SATA that it was OS independent/transparent?!).
Has anyone else used the same RAID array under windows and Linux? Does it work flawlessly under both, even with different driver versions? Any corruption issues?
I've asked 3ware if I can expect any problems, but no response as yet. If anyone has any info, I'd be much obliged! Thanks. |

I've been using a 3ware under Linux only. But since it is a really hardware based raid solution you shouldn't have to worry. Other than semi hardware solutions such as Promise controllers the 3ware driver doesn't handle the raid mechanism but the controller itself. |
