It's basically a program for turning your Linux machine into a TIVO. If you have a IR Tuner, and TV-Out video card (optional, if you think your monitor is acceptable for watching), you can get something very similar to Tivo with MythTV.
I actually use Snapstream (a commercial program like MythTV) on a Windows media server I built (long before I decided to switch to Linux). I love it. |

Well, mythtv will record programs over broadcast or cable no matter where you are. But to have actual "Program Guide" support, MythTV depends on xmltv.
According to http://membled.com/work/apps/xmltv/
Quote: | At present there are backends grabbing TV listings for Canada, the USA, the UK, Germany, Austria, Finland, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Hungary, Denmark, Japan, Sweden, France, Norway, Portugal (currently down), and Romania.

I didn't know that, but based on what mythtv.org says:
Quote: | No more XMLTV dependency for North American users. |
It looks like it's still XMLTV for psofa and others outside of North America. |
