How do I change the fonts Firefox uses for it's user interface? I'm running Firefox under IceWM. The fonts that Firefox is using for it's menus and toolbars are too small.

I emerged a utility called "switch2" which allows me to choose my GTK theme and font, and that seems to work for other GTK apps, but it only partially works for Firefox. When I change the GTK theme, Firefox uses the new theme (colours and widgets), but it does not use the font I specify.

I have this file in my home directory.
~/.gtkrc-2.0
Code:
gtk-font-name = "Bitstream Vera Sans 11"

It sets the font type/size for firefox and thunderbird and other gtk apps. I'm using KDE.

In the firefox options under fonts set your diplay resolution to system settings and measure the line it gives you with a ruler. In your X* config have your monitor physical size set.

Code:
Section "Monitor"

    DisplaySize 652 245 #physical monitor size in mm

I'm have twinview running so the system things my resolution is 2048x768 so that's why my size is so big.

Thanks! That worked. The switch2 utility created a .gtkrc-2.0 file for me:

Code:
# -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT
include "/home/mark/.themes/TigertCrack/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"

style "user-font"
{
  font_name="Luxi Sans 12"
}
widget_class "*" style "user-font"

include "/home/mark/.gtkrc.mine"

# -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT

But it doesn't seem to work as advertised. I added the line you gave me to the file and that seemed to work.

Cheers,

Mark

It sets the font type/size for firefox and thunderbird and other gtk apps. I'm using KDE.

Thx, solved my issues too. Finally a way to have proper fonts for non-KDE apps without the need of installing gnome-control-center.

Of course you could have just used the fonts section under the FF setup dialogue. It has a minimum font size option, thats how I control the font size in FF and it is DE independent :-)

well, these settings set the fonts for page content only - we're talking about the menu (and in case of thunderbird of everything but the content of a mail) ...

Hi all,
I had the same problem.
In another post someone advised to install
Code:

emerge gtk-chtheme

Works like a charm!
Gerard.

For that problem I changed (hard set) the dpi in xorg.conf to a more rational number. On my system with 1600x1200 I have it set to 112. It was defaulting to something like 130'ish and the fonts were so small ....
