cd /usr/portage/games-fps
ls

or

http://packages.gentoo.org/packages/?category=games-fps

and

The Linux Game Tome (note that this one doesn't provide Gentoo packages)

Not so much any more. You can see most of the options at http://lokigames.com/ but most of those titles are old. Other than those, there has been the occasional game with ports (eg Neverwinter Nights) but most of them should be listed in the games-* section of portage. (Note that just because a commercial game is listed doesn't mean it's gratis, you generally need the CD to install.)

Run to your local software store and purchase Unreal Tournament 2004. It contains both the Windows and Linux version. You should patch it, though, from the UT web site.

UT2004 is great, and you can also play UT2003 and the original UT in Linux. Also, Enemy Territory may not be commercial (i.e. its free) but it is commercial quality. Oh, and Quake 3.. Never played that one though. UT2004 has an installer on the disc, ET is free download, I'm not sure about Quake 3.. But it seems you can emerge it, so you probably just need the CD.

Oh, and also, Doom 3 will be released for Linux at the same time as for Windows :D

Enemy Territory is commercial, just distributed for free. I'm fairly sure that Enemy Territory was originally intended as a multiplayer (and perhaps singleplayer) expansion pack to the original RTCW. Instead, some benevolent boss decided they should just release it for free. You don't even need the origninal RCTW to play it :).

If you use gentoo and play ET, drop by #gentoo-et on freenode, the home of the Gentoo Enemy Territory clan. We're always recruiting and even if you aren't interested in joining right away you can still stop by for a game every now and then.

Some Windows fps games work with winex ( www.transgaming.com ). It's not free (15$ for the newest version and 3 month patches), but not very expensive either. Nowdays FarCry seems to be the hottest title working with winex.
