|

Hi! I'm having a problem with latest ATI 3.9.0 driver + XFree86 or X.org that nobody has posted anything about AFAIK.
The module is well built with vmalloc and getpage(page) patches and for SMPless system (SMP=0 in make.sh) loads without any OOPS and DRI is successfully initialized.
The only glitch is when I switch from X to a text console (currently using radeonfb old to achieve 1680x1050 terminal) and back to X, the only thing displayed is a black screen with some coloured dots in the dark trying to draw some parts of the upper gnome panel. The only solution so far is to quit X and restart it...
Everything is almost perfect and 2D performance at least rocks so it's quite frustrating to suffer this problem.
My system is a HP NX7000/Compaq X1000 laptop with a 9000 "SE" radeon card (9000 with 9200 clocks) running 2.6.6-mm5 kernel with REGPARAM disabled and DRI disabled as well in the kernel. This problem happens with InternalAGPGart set to On and Off ... The only workaround i came across so far is to disable DRI alltogether in xorg.conf but then...what is the point of using ati-drivers instead of xorg-x11 open-source drivers?
Thanx in advance for any help |

This is most likely the problem right here. Switch to VESA fb and the problem should go away. _________________ Wasurenaide...

Thanx for the tip...but I would do it if VESA supported 1680x1050 ...i work a lot in the console and a stretched resolution (4:3 on a 16:10 panel) would be pretty much unconfortable to work with...
Besides xorg-x11 driver interacts nicely with the radeonfb so there is a possibility that ATI driver will work fine too perhaps with some hacks...dunno |

The ATI driver has never worked well with the radeonfb driver, and I don't know of any patches for either driver to improve matters. If you really don't want to lose your framebuffer config, and you do a lot of work in the console, you could just keep using the "radeon" DRM driver instead. AFAIK it should work alright with the radeonfb driver and it should support 3D accel on your card. _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra
