|
|
Hi,
I'm doing a stage 3 Gentoo install. Everything seemed to go OK following the manual. Got as far as installing X which appeared OK.
I started to install KDE two and a half days ago by running the command:
emerge kde
After a day and a half it was still progressing, so I serached this forum, and found that someone with a K6-400 took 2 days to install. So I waited.
After almost exactly 48 hours, it stopped with an error. Something about a hardware or OS problem because the error wasn't repeatable. Sorry, I didn't write it all down (not like me at all -honest).
Then I did emerge --pretend kde.
It said I only had 10 more packages to install.
So I did emerge kde again. That was over 12 hours ago, and it's still going.
My question is: Is this KDE installation likely to work? I keep looking at the screen every now and then, and although it's mostly gobbledegook to me, I do occasionally see the odd warning flash past.
How much longer is it likely to take?
System details:
K6-500
256MB RAM
512MB swap
512K broadband internet connection via ethernet.
2.65 gentoo-dev-sources kernel.
Thanks in advance
Bob. |

I used the Gentoo minimal LiveCD. I thought that way I would get the most up-to date system |

OK . . . finished installing at last. Took approx 68 hours in total. No way would I have done that if I knew it would take that long.
Seems to work OK though |
