when i try and run
Code: | # /usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config |
after it asks for the device name for the mouse it says illegal instruction no matter what |

Do you have xf86cfg on your system? It is usually easier to use.
You could also try to run: Code: | X -configure && startx -- -xf86config /root/XF86Config.new |
Thats the help I can give you. I dont know whats causing the error you get, maybe google can tell you. |

no xf86cfg and the other one did the same illegel instruction

I think the version of xfree86 you have may be b0rked. You could try another version. |

when i originally tryed to do emerge xfree everything went fine but it had an error with the file "savage-*-*.zip" or something like that
in order to get it to not have any errors i ran it with --usepkg |

Ok. I dont know anything about that.
Because xfree86 is not officially supported anymore because of licensing concerns you could try xorg-x11 which is used in the exact same way as xfree.
edit: that is the newer versions. The "old" versions are still supported. |
