hi,
i've used /usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config to set up my Xfree86 thingy, but when i type "startx", it loads up, but neither the keyboard nor the mouse will work!
if it helps, i'm using a PS/2 keyboard, and a USB mouse plugged into a PS/2 port with an adaptor.
i read on a similar thread on this board that xf86cfg is better to use, but when i try that it says: "Fatal server error: caught signal 11. server aborting"
any help greatly appreciated, and ask any questions you want
thanks a lot

well, i have pretty much what you have for keyboard settings, and i tried your mouse settings, but apparently /dev/input/mice doesnt exist, so X won't start. i have it set to /dev/psaux, and X will start, but the mouse wont do anything....
i did have the keyboard working before, but i cant remember what settings i had when it did.... |

Apple Chewer,
Sorry, I can't shed any light on your problem as I have exactly the same problem myself. Neither the mouse nor the keyboard work in X. However, I thought if I listed my experience it might ring a bell with someone.
Everything was working perfectly until I updated my system over the weekend from 2004.0 to 2004.1. ie. "emerge --update system". This ran fine.
On reboot, however, starting X failed due to an error in the XF86Config file. It didn't like the mouse configuration. I changed:
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" to
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
Now X starts, takes quite a long time to reach the login screen and then I can progress no further as neither the mouse nor the keyboard work.
So to me it seems as if some underlying problem with the location or names of devices or drivers may be the issue. Ie the XF86Config files points to devices, etc that may have changed.
Anyone? |
