Hi all, I'm having a problem with KDE not launching after logging in via kdm. Instead of KDE as expected I get a terminal and I have to manually type startkde.
I have added the xdm script to the default run level, kde-3.2.2 is set as my xsession in rc.conf and kdm is selected as my display manager.
Am I missing something? Thanks. |

When you have kdm started...before you log in choose Menu -> Session Type -> kde 3.2.2
otherwise kdm logs you automatically into the previous wm session which is probably in your case fwm. After you chose kde 3.2 then put username and passwd and you should be logged in kde. |

Hmmm...it does look like a fwm terminal now that you mention it, but selecting KDE as the session (note: there is no explict KDE 3.2.2 session) I'm still seeing the same problem. |

Do you start X at boot? If you do, make sure that in your /etc/rc.conf file you have
Code: | DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm" |
Code: | XSESSION="kde-3.2.2" |
Those line are already there, probably having different values or they are commented.
If you don't start X at boot then you can do this by adding xdm to your default runlevel with: Code: | rc-update add xdm default |
In this case you don't have to edit ~.xsession file in your home directory to kde. I would say to remove it first in case that one overwrites the /etc/rc.conf file. |
