first time installing gentoo,
my partitions look like this:
hda - Windowz (20 gig maxtor)
hdc1 - /boot
bdc2 - swap
hdc3 - /
hdc5 - /opt
hdc6 - /home
while installing grub, i accidentally typed in:
grub> root (hd0,0)
grub> setup (hd0)
grub> quit
now because of that my box will only boot to windows, and there is no way that i know of to get back into my linux partition to change the grub settings. Could use any help you can offer.
Thanks |

Use a linux boot disk, mount the partition, change and save. |

I am not that good with linux yet but couldn't you just boot back with the gentoo boot cd?.........which would mean you praboly have to go into bios ant tell it to boot the cd-rom first |

What do you mean by running?
nano -w /mnt/gentoo/boot/grub/grub.conf should work. |

i was having a problem with the CD for some reason, so i changed the bios to boot to hdd-1, and it came up with grub, only problem was it was giving me an error. I am in school right now so im not looking at the computer but i know it gave me the error 17, which i believe is a problem mounting filesyste. any help would be very much appreciated.
the disks formats are:
hda1 - hd0 - NTFS
hdc1 - hd1 - ext2
hdc2 - hd1 - Linux swap
hdc3 - hd1 - ReiserFS
hdc5 - hd1 - ReiserFS
hdc6 - hd1 - ReiserFS
once again, any help would be very much appreciated as I am almost thinking about just totall reinstalling, seeing as everything was right save my one typing error in the installation of grub.
thanks in advance |
