I have:
minimal liveCD

stage3-atrball.bz2 file

i start installing gentoo, following the orders of installation guide, but i discovered i was needing portage-*******.bz2 file and also the source code under /cdrom/distfiles/..Were am i wrong??.

those are actually probably on the universal cds as well. for a networkless install you will need the universal CD which has portage and stages on it, as well as a packages cd to get everything up and running. IIRC, the stages are on both the live and packages cds. make sure to emerge -K or emerge -k things that you want from the cd. -K means use packages only, and -k means use packages if available

nah don't worry about portage-xxx.bz2 assuming you have a network connection you'll emerge sync'd it and it'll be the exact same thing but only updated to the most recent. but only assuming you have a network connection.

if that makes any sence

I would say that Universal CD doesn't have stage 2 on it, I have to connect to internet and grab stage2 all the time...
