| C'e' questo fatto che non capisco... il mio athlon-xp viene rilevato al boot del liveCD come un athlon-mp. Ma allora, se abilito il supporto SMP nel kernel faccio meglio, peggio o nulla? |

Non ho mai sentito che gli atlhon-mp abbiamo tipo hyper threading quindi penso che sia inutile attivare il supporto smp anche se una prova la puoi fare.

l'athlon xp e l'athlon mp sono in pratica lo stesso processore, solo che l'mp ha il supporto x il multiprocessing (puoi montarne 2 su una mobo). sulla gran parte di questi processori c'è un contatto (L5) che se ricollegato abilita il supporto multiprocessing. Può darsi tu abbia un processore che già di suo è 'moddato' per lavorare in configurazioni mp, ma da solo si comporta esattamente come un xp, ne più ne meno.
io ho difatti acquistato due XP 2000+ e li ho moddati in cinque minuti a MP, e ora girano insieme sulla mobo, powered by gentoo  |

Io possideo un AthlonXP 2600+ (Barton) e ho notato che mplayer lo rileva come Athlon-4 e si compila con -mcpu=athlon-4 e -march=athlon-4
Nel make.conf ho sempre messo athlon-xp, dovrei mettere athlon-4? |
