Hi,
Under windowsxp I used to use a handy little app called ShareScan to scan my work LAN for open shares (amazing what people share at times). I've got Samba up and running, and if I know the machine name I can connect and mount their sharesdirectories, but is there an app which will let me scan an ip range and find any machines with shares?

Im fairly sure there is, but im also fairly new to Linux!

I don't know about listing them, but LinNeighborhood (note the caps!) runs just like Network Neighbourhood and allows you to quickly see the shares on each machine

Thanks - that seems to be a useful bit of kit!

Also, if you use KDE, the lisa daemon can show you much more than just SMB shares - lisa handles nfs/ftp/fish/some other shares as well. :) Turn it on from KDE Control Center --> Internet & Networking --> Local network browsing.
