Hello.
1. I cannot mkfs.xfs from the ppc64 LiveCD.
Am I doing something wrong or is not supported yet?
2. I noticed there was no option for kernel preemption, I usually patch the
kernel with Andrew Morton's mm1 from kernel.org.
Can I do the same here?
Thank you |

When emerging the ppc64 sources it says that preemp is broken - so it might be a good idea to skip it this time. What do you mean by "hanging at the cpu??
I'll try to use Tom Galls configs that seem to be located at arch/ppc64/configs. So far I have successfully compiled about three kernels under PPC64 - neither of these kernels were actually able to boot my machine (dual G5). The boot process stopped very early at OF. |

This time the kernel actually booted. I got it from arch/ppc64/configs. The weird thing is that before init starts it suddenly reboots and complaints about "no initialö console found". Well, it is exactly the same configuration as with Tom Gall's kernel from the CD. Nothing different. And I haven't changed the config from the directory mentioned above one bit. Very strange. |

While booting, the last line is
Core99_setup_cpu Done
The fans make an airplane reactor sound and the machine eventually reboots |

It's important to include support for dev filesystem. It's under filesystems. After having added that - which is considered to be "obsolete" - the kernel boots fine. I still get the warning about not being able to open an initial console - but it does not do any harm. Network, fonts, loadkeys etc. are working fine.
Another thing: The warning "no initial console found" disappears when making two device nodes, null and console, as described in the Gentoo docs. I am not sure if the dev directory is then being managed by udev and the dev filesystem but the boot process works fine. |
