Problems emerging kernel

I'm trying to install Gentoo i86 on a new computer. This is my first time installing Gentoo. I'm using the Universal CD.

When I run an emerge gentoo-sources I get the following error:

Error: sys-apps/module-init-tools-0.9.15_pre4 failed.
Function src_compile, Line 70, Exitcode 2
emake modutils failed

When I try a emerge genkerenl I get:

Error: media-libs/freetype-2.1.5-r1 failed.
Function src_compile, Line 43, Exitcode 2

I'm trying a Stage 3 install. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Post the last 10 lines before the ones you did... the error output will be useful.

For emerge gentoo-sources the last 10 lines before the ones I posted are:

configure: creating ./config.status
config.status: creating Makefile
config.status: creating Makefile.common
config.status: creating depmod/Makefile
config.status: creating genksyms/Makefile
config.status: creating insmode/Makefile
config.status: creating obj/Makefile
config.status: creating util/Makefile
config.status: creating man/Makefile

make:*** No rule to make target 'j2'.stop
