Is infrastructure the right word? I hope so, I don't get to say "infrastructure" enough
(infrastructure, infrastructure, infrastructure... there, it's out of my system)
Anyway, what do Gentooers like, OSS or ALSA? I'm used to ALSA, but I'm noticing that there are a few posts on here talking of problems with it.. and a lot of stuff needs patches/plugins to do alsa. What are the pros and cons of either? _________________ ^]:wq |

Or I could read downwards a bit...
Anyway, the basic question was answered, but I'm still looking for discussion
Oh, I have an Audigy if that makes any difference (ie "ALSA is great if you have some offbrand crap card, but OSS does Creative cards better") _________________ ^]:wq |

I'm using ALSA with OSS emulation with both a pretty common SB Live! and a professional Midiman Delta 44, and it works very very nice (specially with the Delta).
OSS from the kernel never works good for me, and a lot of software have ALSA support only; also I must say that my lovely Delta don't have OSS kernel support, but the Live! has a lot of problems with the kernel drivers. I'm waiting for a better 2.5 kernel, with ALSA embedded, as I heard somewhere. _________________ ·-=: lanark :=-· |
