Everytime I boot I get an error that it couldnt find my usb devices. Well thats because USB hotplugging didn't start yet. I have hotplug in the default runlevel. Why is it trying to mount them before it even loads the modules for them? Any ideas?

put hotplug into the boot runlevel

rc-update del hotplug
rc-update add hotplug boot
(from memory)

It fails at

Mounting Local Filesystems:
Mounting /dev/sda1 Failed
Mounting /dev/sdb4 Failed
Some Local Filesystems Failed to mount

I also did put hotplug in the boot runlevel. Still fails

rc-update shows

alsasound | boot
apache2 |
apmd |
bootmisc | boot
checkfs | boot
checkroot | boot
clock | boot
consolefont | boot
crypto-loop |
cupsd |
domainname |
esound |
famd | default
gkrellmd |
gpm |
hdparm | default
hostname | boot
hotplug | boot
iptables | default
keymaps | boot
lm_sensors | default
local | default nonetwork
localmount | boot
metalog | default
modules | boot
net.eth0 | default
net.lo | boot
netmount |
nscd |
ntp-client |
ntpd | default
numlock |
portmap |
rmnologin | boot
rsyncd |
samba |
serial | boot
sshd |
urandom | boot
vixie-cron | default
winbind |
xdm |
xfs | default

Could it be because "localmount" is in the boot runlevel? I dont even know for sure what localmount is?

Any ideas?

You have sda & sda1 in your fstab ?

IIf so, put "noauto" in the options in fstab

/dev/sda1 /mnt/xxx filetype noauto,rw 0 0 (or something like that)..

Then when you boot it will not try to mount them automatically.

When you need to use them just type:
mount /mnt/xxxx and you have access.
then umount /mnt/xxxx
