Ugh another "What's the best xxx?" thread.

The reason other shells are still around is the same reason KDE and GNOME are still around, the same reason there's vim, nano, emacs and a million other editors around, the same reason aterm, Eterm and rxvt are all still around. The reason is because each of them is different. Different people want different things from their GUI environment, their editor, their terminal emulator and yes, even their shell. It's all subjective and the best of anything is whichever one fulfils your needs and the only way to figure out which one it is is by trying them and seeing what works for you.

Having got that off my chest, I'm still using bash for the simple reason that I didn't know any better when I got started and so far I haven't had a reason to change. I think most people have the same experience... start out with DistroX which uses bash as its default shell and because you don't know any better (at least initially) you really just go with it. I think the #1 reason for not using bash is probably because you've used another *NIX before and are already familiar with the ins and outs of some other shell. #2 reason is probably a combination of curiousity followed by a discovery that there's some other shell out there that you're more comfortable working with.

if you haven't used any others you might as well use bash as lots of scripts/linux books/users etc.. use that.

bash does the job for most people. if you want to try something with a little more kick to it, try zsh. There is a learning curve to it. However, once you get used to it, you wont go back.
