hi mayday,

try emerging net-im/linpopup. it's using samba to send messages to windows boxes.

otherwise you can use kopete. imho there is a plugin to send those messages

use smbclient. sorry I dont know the exact command, I used to do it alot to my family.

man smbclient should tell ya. I think it might be the -L option, not sure though.

I believe you are looking for:

smbclient -M computername -U username

The -M option tells smbclient to send a message to the computer "computername" and the -U option tells smbclient to send it from "username" (if you wish to change the sender name).
