Is it possible to do a selective `emerge sync`?
Say I just want to emerge sync gnome-base/ stuffs, bcoz I am only interested in updating gnome for the time being. Is it possible to do so?
NOTE: I am in a dialup connection. So emerge sync will take longer and I already have the sources for GNOME-2.6.1, so I can afford that upgrade if selective sync is possible _________________ Sridhar R

yes, it is possible.
Search the forums for "rsync exclude", there´s a howto.
else, try that:
create /etc/portage/rsync_exclude
put in all the stuff you don´t need
