I wonder if there's a way to eject the cdrom drive. I remember there were these utilities for this on Windows, any way to do this on Gentoo? _________________ undvd - ripping dvds should be as simple as unzip |

Use eject:
Code: | emerge eject
eject /mnt/cdrom
|
You can give it the mount point or cdrom device as an argument, and -t to close the tray. _________________ Search | Read | Answer | Report | Strip |

Excellent!
Another question then. Right now I'm performing a remote install of gentoo, it was started from the 2000.1 livecd. Is there a way I could reboot and eject the cd in the process (ie. like knoppix does)? That way I could boot with the new kernel and into the live system. I suppose that would take alteration of the bootup script or something but is it doable? _________________ undvd - ripping dvds should be as simple as unzip |

Wouldn't the problem with that be that the computer automatically loads the cdrom when it reboots? |

Yes I thought someone might say that. But in this case it's not a problem, it's a laptop with one of those trays you have to load manually. _________________ undvd - ripping dvds should be as simple as unzip |

yes, yes its an old post. But I am having the problem that lifl points out. Is it possiable however to somehome modify the bios from linux itself so the boot order can be changed?
Or is there any other way to reboot to a fresh install remotly? I was possibly thinking of somehow modifying the cdrom drive so that it isn't recognized but that wont exactly work if im still running off the cd will it...
Thanks for any help! |
