Is there a CD ISO or some other way to install Gentoo without having a network connection? I'm going to be riding for 10 hours then flying for another 8, so I figured I'd try installing Gentoo on my laptop but I obviously can't connect to any servers and download the sources. |

RTFAQ at www.gentoo.org:

Definitely. You can run emerge --pretend package to see what programs are going to be installed. Download sources and bring them on any media home. Put the sources into /usr/portage/distfiles and run emerge package to see it picking up the sources you just brought in! . |

That's fine once I have Gentoo installed, I was looking for info or experience installing it from scratch rather than having to 'emerge --pretend' for each system package.
Basically I couldn't find any info regarding what sources are included on the live CD. So it looks like what I have to do is
a) download ALL the sources from one of the Gentoo mirrors
b) download the packages snapshot
c) burn them to CDs
d) start the live CD
c) copy the sources to /usr/portage/distfiles
d) bunzip the packages snapshot to /usr/portage
e) start the Gentoo install
f) cross my fingers or remember to bring a few books
Ugh, what a pain....but it looks like it might be fun! |

there is this script: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=5224
you could also run emerge -f
to download the packages
and then run emerge to install them
if you are wondering what packages are needed for the bootstrap look at the bootstrap.sh file |
