I have recently installed gentoo on my computer. Its an amd 64. I installed ut2004 on it and it runs good except one thing. I cannot play online. It shows all the servers online and then it connects to them then whenever it is loading the map or wahtever it does, it says connection failed. Any ideas? |

When you installed Gentoo did you set up a firewall? _________________ "Sometimes one pays most for the things one gets for nothing." Albert Einstein |

I had to open udp 7777:7778 and tcp/udp 28902. I had these in my firewall from 2K3 and it worked with 2K4. I don't know if there are any additional ports needed, but this should at least get you playing. |

did you perhaps install mods such as fraghouse invasion or jailbreak
2004? if so - get the fixes for them - from their homepages - so that
having them installed does not cause your problem; it is a known bug
with ut2004 that mods can prevent other gametypes from connecting
to servers.
good luck |

Networking was broken in retail for amd64, amd64 users need to upgrade to the latest patch. |

Ok, do you know where I can get the patch? and how to use it? I would greatly appreciate it. Also, why is that I can see the servers and connect but then it says connection failed? |

It'll install the patch for you too. _________________ What is the best [insert-type-of-program-here]? |

It will also make patching easier in the future, because you can update it along with the rest of your programs. _________________ What is the best [insert-type-of-program-here]? |

Ports only have to be opened if you are running a service, i.e. the ut2k4 server. Not if you are running the client to connect to a server outside your network.
I have nothing except port 22 opened on my firewall and I can play network games fine. |
