I'm getting married in August. I'm currently living with my Fiancee and she doesn't know anything about computers. What she does know is that she can't play computer games with her family because the programs require Windows, and I can't get them to run under Wine. So I'm having to compromise and getting rid of Linux for the time being so that she can play those games online with her family. I also don't have a broadband connection anymore, since I'm not living in my parents house, so I can't really dual-boot for the time being.
Hopefully in the future I'll be able to afford a new computer for her and then I can get my computer back. Until then, it'll be OUR computer, so I have to be nice and share. There goes 60 hours of work getting it just the way I want, but hey, the next time around, it should only take me 30 or 40 hours to get it installed and working the way I want, so it's all good.
Thank you all for your help with all of the problems I've incurred.

you can burn a image of your box like it is now, and next time just put it on the harddrive, that should save you some time.
best wishes. _________________ linux: #232767 |

Not much point, no? By the time he comes back, there will already be a new GCC, glibc, XORG, GNOME, MPLAYER, etc, etc...

Congrats on the wedding!
Um, what does lack of broadband have to do with not being able to dual boot? _________________ I'm only hanging out in OTW until I get rid of this stupid l33t ranking.....Crap. That didn't work. |

Yeah, I really don't see how a lack of broadband can conbtribute in any way to the ability or inability to dual boot. However, cuddle much and have fun since the computer won't be fun anymore. lol |

Go buy VMWare. What's a few bucks compared to the wedding anyway? |

Bah, you've all got your priorities screwed up. Just don't get married
Seriously though, not having broadband just means there's a little more effort on your part to get things downloading off the 'net - and it will work. So get a cheap 20GB hard disk for £30 or so, stick Windows on there, and keep Gentoo. GRUB can handle dual-booting for you. And you're never going to convert her to Linux if you don't give her a chance to use it... _________________ Reality is for those who can't face Science Fiction.

Super Tux is an awesome game, so get her to play it. lol
Anyway, you can run Medal of Honor virtually flawlessly (my friend gets higher FPS through Wine in Linux than in Windows XP and it loads faster in Linux off the same HDD too) through normal Wine. Of course, maybe that's not the game she wants to play.
Anyway, what games are there that she does want to play? Maybe some of us awesome people can find multi-platform equivalents. |
