I haven't quite figured out why I can't use "su" as user to gain root access.. The error returned is "permission denied", not "incorrect password".
The Gentoo kernel is compiled with medium security but I browsed the customizable options and didn't see anything su-access related.
Hmm..creating and poking around with /etc/suauth didn't help either. |

Make sure your non-root user is in the "wheel" group. |
