(Note that this is actually on a Solaris Server from my school, but the problem I think is for any *nix box)
I'm using my gentoo notebook- dell 600m, to SSH into my school server, I tried changing my password with passwd on the server. The new password I gave now works, but my old passwd does too? How do I get my old password to stop working?
Also- I can login, now, using either password, however when I try to use "passwd" to change it, it says:
changing nis password for XXXX on YYYYY
current password:
But it wont accept my new password, only the old one.
Thanks for any clarification anyone can give |

You need to look at your schools password changing instructions. There may be special procedures if your school uses hesiod+kerberos or some other distributed authentication system. That's the only way I can think of that you could end up with two valid passwords. We were supposed to use a webpage for changing out password instead of the passwd command at my university. |
