I haven't used the combo of hal+dbus+gnome-volume-manager. But I have used dbus+hal+ivman. You can get the ebuild at www.breakmygentoo.net or included with the regular download at ivman.sourceforge.net.
You have to have the proper lines in /etc/fstab as well, or else it won't know what to mount where. For example I couldn't get my cdrom to automount until I changed my cdrom line to this...
/dev/hdd /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,ro,users 0 0
before i had /dev/cdrom or something like that and it didn't work. I'd suggest reading around the hal and dbus configuration files in addition to whatever you use to configure gnome-volume-manager. |

You shoulnt ever change fstab to get ivman runing. Just edit /etc/ivman/IvmConfigMappings.xml, read the comments, and add a convenient mappings line.
Beware: the line which is already in there is commented out, so dont just alter it if you want to create a mapping, also uncomment it!!! _________________ Working day and night to enhance the Linux Desktop Experience

Where on bmg? I sync the bmg-main on a daily basis, and don't have it.
The ebuild in the tarball I got from SF.net seems to be segfaulting on me too. _________________ My Public Key

This is a few days ago, not tried v0.3 yet.
And yes, dbus and hal are both uptodate cvs and happy.
When I get some time to have a play, I will mail you, I got the address of the hal/utopia mailing lists.
As I said before I'm intrested in helping get the usb parts working if I can, and if I can find some time!!
The public key link in my sig also holds my email address if your intrested. _________________ My Public Key

I'm certainly interested
Got an sf.net account? There are some small things I'm thinking of related to USB stuff, so I guess we should talk a bit first (design and stuff)...
