|
|
Hello, and let me thank you beforehand for any help you can give. I know I'm an uber-noob, so please bear with me. I don't even know how to get useful info to paste here that would be helpful... Let me know any commands I should type to get anybody some more useful info... Unfortunately, I still need a hand with all of that.
Anyway, my setup: I have 4 IDE HDs on two channels, and one SCSI CD-R. I have Gentoo installed on the Primary Slave. These are the detected drives:
Code: | ls /dev/hd*
/dev/hdb /dev/hdb2 /dev/hdc /dev/hdd
/dev/hdb1 /dev/hdb3 /dev/hdc1 /dev/hdd1
|
Code: | ls /dev/cd*
ls: /dev/cd*: No such file or directory
|
The Primary Master is an NTFS drive with Win2k on it, and it doesn't seem like it's showing up in the /dev/hd list. The two drives on the second channel are just "stuff" drives, both fat32, and they seem to work fine. I can't find the CD-R either (I don't even want to use it as a CD-R just yet anyway, baby steps).
So, I'm not sure what to do, and my good friend who knows GNU/Linux much better than I isn't around.
Thanks again,
-Jesse

Well, your SCSI drive will come up as sr? (like mine is /dev/sr0) but ls-ing the /dev/ directory is a poor way to see what's going on in terms of hardware so do a dmesg (just type that in the console) and scroll up (shift + pgup) until you get lines talking about hd-blahblahblah. That should give you plenty of information, but if you still have troubles post the output here. |

The only mention of SCSI I see is in reference to HDA... which isn't a SCSI drive.

Just figured out the hda problem... it's not scsi, and for some reason, the kernel command line in grub was hda=ide-scsi... I just got rid of that line and it works just fine now.
I still can't figure out my SCSI CD-R problem though.

Figured it out, I had all of the SCSI support built into the kernel _except_ for the 7xxx driver. It was called something different than what the model number of the SCSI controller card is, so I hadn't considered it.
