Hi , I have a Creative Audigy Sound card. I don't know but I can't make it work. Tried to hear some musics with XMMS, but a warning message says :
Code:

Couldn't open audio
Please check that:

Your soundcard is configured
You have the correct output plugin selected
No other program is blocking the soundcard

You see.. i don't really know how to check all those things. So if someone could help me.

ok
first you need to have a module for the card
the module is emu10k1

if youre using a 2.4 kernel it should be in the menuconfig under sound card
recompile your kernel with it , if you compile it built'in in the kernel it should auto detect it . and should be able to use it

if you have it as a module you need to load the mocule using

modprobe emu10k1 and then use the xmms

to get the external module use

emerge emu10k1

post your log so i can check if it is loading it or not

it depens if you are using alsa or oss.

if you want to use alsa

install the alsa packages (utils and drivers)

run (as root)

Code:
alsaconfig

then u have to unmute the sound run:
Code:
alsamixer

pump up the volume.

in xmms under options/preferences u can choose which output plugin you want
to use. choose alsa, if you are using alsa
