The kernel headers are only needed for packages that include some of those headers (for example file system utils). Some of those packages are not updated for the 2.6.x kernel series yet. So, when you upgrade re-emerging those packages might fail. |

The seperated kernel headers are there moreso for glibc than for anything else. 3rd party software isn't supposed to link against them at all. While it's true that there are still a couple of things that disagree with the 2.6 headers the list is a lot shorter than it was when I first started using them a few months back. In a practical sense though there's really no reason to unmask the 2.6 kernel unless you want to compile glibc with NPTL support even if you run a 2.6 kernel. There's no penalty for having mismatched kernel/headers. _________________ Wasurenaide...
