|
|
Ok, so I finally got my gateway at home working fine...
I'm using it to connect my main comp to the net using IP masquerading, everything works fine, exept I can't connect to MSN anymore
I tried both Kopete and Gaim, both of them connect fine to the ICQ network but not MSN.
Can anyone tell me what could be the problem?
Thanks |

AFAIK it uses port 1863. Allowing my LAN machines access through this port works for me. Only for text messages, of course, files and audio/video demand that you open several ports for access from the internet, which I don't like too much. |

All client computers can access any server on any port. So, does msn client actually runs a server? |

Not for text messages. But it runs a server for reception of files and audio/video conversations.
Here's something from a FAQ:
Quote: | Here is all the info we have on MSN Messenger:
MSN Messenger
Ports 6891-6900 enable File send,
Port 6901 is for voice communications
Allows Voice, PC to Phone, Messages, and Full File transfer capabilities.
IN TCP 6891 - 6900
IN TCP 1863
IN UDP 1863
IN UDP 5190
IN UDP 6901
IN TCP 6901
Try setting 6891,6900, and 6901 as triggers. Then set the public ports to 1863,5190-6901. If that does not work, set the incoming ports to 1-64535 (note: this opens a WIDE range of ports) and add in 5190 and 1863 as triggers. You can also try putting your machine in the DMZ (go into Misc. Items). Make sure that you have upgraded the firmware as well. |
Maybe you should try opening the port for UDP also. But the thing is, my router is configured to only allow connections from LAN to NET, port 1863, TCP only. They are not allowed to connect just to any destination, and yet MSN works fine for me. |

I'm no planning to tranfer any files or use voice communications
I looked up "netstat" while it was connecting
tcp 0 0 main:34957 loginnet.passport:https ESTABLISHED
tcp 0 0 main:34952 loginnet.passport:https ESTABLISHED
tcp 0 0 main:34953 messenger.hotmail.:1863 TIME_WAIT
I can't understand why can't it connect to messenger.hotmail |
