Hello, I set it up and I can connect fine. Just one question...

How can I have it so that a user has permissions to a directory?

in this case
/var/www/localhost/htdocs/webfolder/
this is so i can update the website.
Right now its saying permission denied but I can roam freely around the directories, any help?

How are you doing authentication (e.g. passwd, mysql, etc.)? Also what are the permissions on that direcory for the user that you are trying to log in as?

Sorry about not getting back to you..
What I would first do is make sure that /var/www/localhost/htdocs/webfolder has the correct permisssions to have files written there by the user that you want to allow FTP access.
Then (for security best practices) create a user with that as their home directory and a false shell (/dev/null).
Pure-FTP will recognize that that is the home dir and will place them there by default. That should work.
There is another alternative, although it may be a little trickier, and that is to create a symbolic link to /var/www/localhost/htdocs/webfolder in the typical home dir. of the user (i.e. /home/user). The trick is getting Pure-FTP to allow symbolic links in a dir to be followed. I would suggest going to Pure-FTP's site and check out the docs.
