mailman + apache UID

I'm not able to get the web interface of mailman working with apache2.

The mailman files are owned by mailman and apache runs as apache. The scripts run ok, but there are a number of files that the cgi fails on when writing to. These two ebuilds seem broken out-of-the-box. I can tweak up the permissions and force the issue, but is there a 'most correct' way to address this?
