|
|
Long story short, I have had this problem intermittently for a while, and it seems to only appear once and a while. I havnt tinkered with my kernel in a while, and this has happened at least twice in the past few months.
The Gnome panel applet "Volume Control" spews this error message: "Sorry, no mixer elements and/or devices found" ... but beep-media-player (and xmms) can play my music just fine. So im not sure whats wrong.
Here's some info:
I'm using the 2.6 series kernel, gentoo-sources. I'm using the onboard sound on my nForce2 based motherboard.
Here's some output from my probing:
root@Farrell upgrdman # ls -l /dev/sound/
total 0
crw------- 1 upgrdman audio 14, 12 Dec 31 1969 adsp
crw------- 1 upgrdman audio 14, 4 Dec 31 1969 audio
crw------- 1 upgrdman audio 14, 3 Dec 31 1969 dsp
crw------- 1 upgrdman audio 14, 0 Dec 31 1969 mixer
crw------- 1 upgrdman audio 14, 1 Dec 31 1969 sequencer
crw------- 1 upgrdman audio 14, 8 Dec 31 1969 sequencer2
root@Farrell upgrdman # /etc/init.d/alsasound status
* status: started
root@Farrell upgrdman # /etc/init.d/esound status
* status: started
I'm pretty sure my sound drivers are compiled into my kernel, and not modules...but here is my /etc/modules.autoload:
nvidia
ohci-hcd
uhci_hcd
but i think i dont need one of those hcd modules...only one loads, and my USB does work...
Thanks,
