Hi,

I just emerged kde 3.2.2. Now when I 'startx' I am greeted by the following message:

Code:

startkde: Starting up...
startkde: Running kpersonalizer...
/usr/kde/3.2/bin/startkde: line 179: 20389 Illegal instruction     kwin --lock
/usr/kde/3.2/bin/startkde: line 179: 20390 Illegal instruction     kpersonalizer --before-session
QPixmap: Cannot create a QPixmap when no GUI is being used
QPixmap: Cannot create a QPixmap when no GUI is being used
kded: ERROR: KUniqueApplication: Registering failed!
kded: ERROR: Communication problem with kded, it probably crashed.
DCOP aborting call from 'anonymous-20408' to 'knotify'
ERROR: Communication problem with knotify, it probably crashed.
startkde: Shutting down...
klauncher: Exiting on signal 1
startkde: Running shutdown scripts...
startkde: Done.

I get the default blue screen and mouse pointer and then X stop to display this message. I have already tried removing .xinitrc, adding 'exect startkde' to it, etc.

Any other clues/suggestions would be helpful.

Regards,
Amit

There are 2 programs that fails due to an illegal instruction error, kwin and kpersonalizer.

Which version of gcc are you using? (gcc --version)
Is your box overclocked?

I am using gcc-3.3.3-r6 with the following CFLAGS:

"-O3 -mcpu=i686 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer"

This is a 1Ghz PIII, *not* overclocked.

Thanks.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I also have the same problem today on a fresh gentoo install. I didn't compile kde, I got it from the 2004.1 binary cd.
